Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Business
The Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies (CAGS) is a non-degree program designed to provide the opportunity for advanced graduate study beyond the MBA degree and serve the continuing education needs of MBA graduates and other professional managers with comparable advanced degrees.
THE CAGS PROGRAM
The CAGS Program consists of five courses normally selected from the list of elective courses in the MBA Program, which must be completed within a period of seven years. To enroll in these courses, students must have completed any prerequisites, either through prior coursework or through enrollment in the appropriate MBA courses.
Grading
CAGS students will be evaluated on the standard grading basis of the MBA program and must maintain a minimum 3.0 QPA in order to earn the CAGS certificate.
Foundation Courses
Foundation Courses (MBA550-557) in the MBA program may not be counted towards the CAGS.
Functional Core Courses (MBA600-605)
Ordinarily, no more than one Functional Core course from the MBA program may count toward the CAGS. Generally, credit for such a course will be approved only if a student has not taken that course or a comparable one at another school within the last three years, and if the student intends to concentrate his/her study in the area of the Functional Core course.
Transfer Credit
A student may transfer in credit for one graduate course for the CAGS. To count, the course must be evaluated and pre-approved by the MBA Director in the same manner that courses are evaluated and approved for transfer credit in the MBA Program. Courses taken as part of other graduate degree programs are not eligible.
Special Student Status
Candidates may take a maximum of one course as a Special Student. Contact the MBA Director for further details.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Candidates for the Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies should already hold an MBA or equivalent graduate degree in a closely related field from an accredited program. Admission criteria will focus on the candidate's academic record and professional experience, and be broadly comparable to those used in evaluating candidates for the MBA Program.
