Robin Frkal is Assistant Professor of Management with a specialization in communication and organizational behavior. She is an Assumption Alum, having received her Bachelor of Arts in Foreign Affairs in 1993. She also holds a Master’s of Science in Professional Communication from Clark University, and PhD from Fielding Graduate University in Human and Organizational Systems. Her current research focuses on understanding the dialogue processes that facilitate women’s leadership development programs.  

Prior to joining Assumption College in the fall of 2015, Robin taught as an adjunct professor at Northeastern University, Bay Path University, Fitchburg State University, and Wentworth Institute for Technology on both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Since joining Assumption she has taught Introduction to Management, Introduction to Organizational Behavior, Strategic Leadership, and International Communication at the undergraduate level.  

Before transitioning to academia in 2012, Robin refined her management skills as Assistant Vice-President, Benefit Operations at Unum Group. In this role she was responsible for risk management of over 1500 claims and $350 million in reserve capital. She provided clear vision and direction to a team of 25 employees to achieve expected results and overall quality score over 95%. She also served in other roles at Unum, including Project Manager for the Benefit Operations Senior Leadership Team. Throughout her almost 20 year career working for the U.S. market leader in disability and long-term care insurance she led teams through a variety of major strategic, organizational, and technological changes.  

She currently serves on the board of the CMM Institute for Personal and Social Evolution, a non-profit organization that seeks to create better social worlds through transforming patterns of communication.

Robin resides in Dudley, MA with her husband and her two teenage sons. When she is not teaching, reading, or writing you will find her supporting her sons in their various sports and activities or spending time outdoors with her two Yorkies.

Lea Christo, MSW, LICSW is the Director of the Health Advocacy Program and is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Human Services and Rehabilitation Studies at Assumption College. Ms. Christo has worked at The Massachusetts Department of Social Services, McLean Hospital, The University of Massachusetts Medical Center, Friendly House, Inc. and The Holy Trinity Eastern Orthodox Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Ms. Christo received her Master of Social Work degree from Boston College and has completed intensive training as a teacher of Mindful Self-Compassion through the University of California, San Diego, School of Medicine.
