Dr. Maria Nemerowicz, M.A. in Special Education alumna and visiting lecturer, wins recent awards for research and district leadership
Maria Nemerowicz, Ed.D., holder of an Assumption M.A. in Special Education '01, received the Hudson, MA Public Schools Superintendent's Award for Curriculum and Leadership in May 2010. The honor is awarded to a teacher who has shown outstanding leadership in peer teaching or implementation of a school or District initiative or peer leadership in some other form with the outcome of improved practice for a group, department, grade, or school. Dr. Nemerowicz has been the facilitator of a special educator mentor group for new teachers, helped with professional development for para-educators, and presented a workshop for the Assabet Collaborative this year.
In addition, Nemerowicz was the recipient of the 2009 Outstanding Education Research Award from the University of Massachusetts Lowell for her dissertation and published journal article entitled Retention and Turnover of Special Education Paraprofessionals: A Multi-Site Case Study. She earned her Ed.D. from the University of Massachusetts Lowell in 2009.
For the past nine years, Maria has been employed by Hudson Public Schools as a special education teacher. She is also an adjunct lecturer in Special Education for the Graduate School at Assumption College where she will be teaching the Inclusion Theory and Practice course in the Spring 2011 semester.
