Psy.D. Articulation Agreement with Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine
Assumption College is pleased to announce that an articulation agreement has been signed with the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) to allow our Counseling Psychology graduates access to enter the Psy.D. program in clinical psychology. The PMOC program is accredited by the American Psychological Association. This is critical as many states prohibit non-APA graduates from applying for licensure as a psychologist.
According to Dr. Doerfler, “Doctoral programs in clinical psychology are very competitive, and this articulation agreement opens the door for Counseling Psychology students to pursue a doctoral degree from a prestigious clinical psychology program. We will be working with the chair of the clinical psychology program at PCOM to develop increased access for Counseling Psychology Program students to the doctoral program.”
The Psy.D. program aims to educate professional clinical psychologists to enable them to meet the individual and collective mental health needs of all persons, by use of comprehensive, empirically-supported cognitive and behavioral therapies, in collaboration with primary care physicians and other health professionals in an effort to provide holistic multidisciplinary health care services. The mission is to train culturally competent clinical psychologists who will be leaders, advocates, clinicians, educators, and supervisors, with a commitment to scholarship and the application of research methodologies to answer clinical questions in their daily practices and communities.
The course of study is an 89-credit multi-year curriculum designed to be completed in 5 years including course work, practicum, internship and dissertation. It integrates the PCOM Department of Psychology's interdisciplinary core graduate courses, the competencies listed by the National Council of Schools and Programs of Professional Psychology, and the core areas recommended by the American Psychological Association's Committee on Accreditation and the National Register. Successful completion of the program will allow the graduate to qualify for the Examination for Professional Practice of Psychology (EPPP) for licensure as a psychologist.
