Academic Programs

Graduate Studies at Assumption College offers programs in Addiction Counseling, Applied Behavior Analysis, Business Administration (MBA), including an MBA in Healthcare ManagementClinical Counseling Psychology, Health Advocacy, Rehabilitation Counseling, Resiliency in the Helping Professions, School Counseling, Special Education, Special Ops: Service Members, Veterans, and Families (SMVF)​ and a Transition Specialist program.

Addiction Counseling

  • Prepares students to develop the practical skills that can be used to assist individuals who struggle with alcohol or drug abuse problems
  • Program is designed to train counselors to treat related challenges including struggles with depression, anxiety, interpersonal or relationship difficulties, lack of social support and communication difficulties
  • Program requires 18 credits (six 3-credit courses) including two internship courses and four content courses
  • The curriculum was developed in collaboration with community partners who are experts in substance abuse and behavioral health, resulting in a program that develops the skills and knowledge that employers are looking for when hiring new employees or staff

Applied Behavior Analysis

  • Prepares students to use principles of behavior to create meaningful and socially important changes for individuals and those around them
  • A comprehensive and multi-disciplinary curriculum prepares students to work in a variety of settings 
  • Provides real-world experience through supervised fieldwork
  • Includes tailored coursework so students can pursue either an applied or research career path
  • Prepares students to apply for licensure as an Applied Behavior Analyst in Massachusetts and to sit for the Board Certified Behavior Analyst exam

Business/MBA program 

  • Part-time Masters of Business Administration degree ideally suited for working professionals
  • Students take courses in the evenings or online and may concentrate in one of seven areas: accounting, finance/economics, human resources, international business, management, marketing and nonprofit leadership
  • In addition, the program offers a full-time Accelerated MBA for recent college graduates including a CPA preparatory track, a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study (CAGS) in Business, a specialized MBA and Certificate of Graduate Study (C.G.S.) in Healthcare Management and the MBA Preparatory Program
  • The MBA Preparatory Program offers a comprehensive set of foundation courses (2 credits each) designed to give those with little or no formal business education the knowledge and credentials needed to enroll and succeed in an MBA program
  • The MBA in Healthcare Management and Certificate of Graduate Study (C.G.S.) for Healthcare Managers provides the essential business administration knowledge, skills and in-depth understanding of healthcare systems needed for today’s healthcare managers.

Clinical Counseling Psychology

  • Designed to prepare graduates to meet the educational requirements for licensure as a Mental Health Counselor in Massachusetts and most other states
  • Assumption offers the only M.A. offering a fully integrated curriculum based on Cognitive-behavioral Therapy (CBT) in the United States

Health Advocacy

  • The program’s online format has been designed with working professionals in mind. Coursework is online.
  • The curriculum combines a broad-based understanding of the field with essential practical expertise that can be applied immediately. As such, it is valuable to seasoned healthcare professionals as well as beginning healthcare advocates.
  • Graduates of our Master's program in Health Advocacy and our Certificate of Patient Advocacy  have the availability to take a newly established national credentialing exam in Patient Advocacy. 
  • Assumption College is proud to be an affiliate of the Alliance of Professional Health Advocates (APHA)
  • The program aligns with the National Association of Healthcare Advocacy Consultants (NAHAC) standards and best practices

Rehabilitation Counseling

  • Program offers a 60-credit Master of Arts degree, both on-campus and online, which is fully accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) 
  • Upon successful completion of the academic and clinical requirements, students are eligible to sit for the Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) exam

Resiliency in the Helping Professions

  • Program is grounded in evidence-based approaches that are valuable for career longevity and the professionals’ investment in the “self”
  • Course work in this 6 course, 18 credit program will focus on resiliency cultivation strategies for helping professionals and their clients, students, patients and consumers
  • Broad professional applicability is targeted to increase professional effectiveness for professionals such as, Rehabilitation Counselors, School Counselors, Educators, Social Workers, Mental Health Counselors, and health and wellness advocates

School Counseling

  • An approved program by the Massachusetts Department of Education to license school guidance counselors (Initial Licensure Pre K–8 or 5-12)
  • Access to current and cutting-edge workshops geared toward professional development of School Counselors, Adjustment Counselors, Social Workers and other counseling professionals through the Institute for School Counseling and School Psychology
  • Rigorous, current curriculum that addresses national and state models/standards
  • The School Counseling CAGS program provides students several customized pathways from which to choose

Special Education

  • Program prepares students who seek Initial or Professional Licensure as Teachers of Students with Moderate Disabilities (PreK-8 or 5-12)
  • The Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study (C.A.G.S.) in Special Education: Positive Behavior Support (PBS) provides advanced graduate students with specialized skills that afford more time teaching and less time disciplining

Special Ops: Service Members, Veterans, and Families (SMVF)​ 

  • Program provides training for individuals in the human services field, arming them with knowledge of relevant issues facing Service Members, Veterans, and their Families
  • Students will gain knowledge about service-related injuries, disabilities, and treatment including specialized knowledge about polytrauma, blast injury and other service related issues
  • With all of the faculty having professional experience working in Veterans, this program provides students with real world knowledge and skills to help them navigate the SMVF system

Transition Specialist Program

  • Program provides training to individuals interested in helping 14 – 22 year old students with disabilities explore and develop career identities as well as develop the skills needed to successfully transition into post-secondary educational, training, and employment after completing high school
  • Knowledge about transition-related legal, assessment, collaborative planning, school and community-based skills are developed
  • Program offers three different certification tracks: Certificate of Graduate Study (C.G.S.) without endorsement, Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study (C.A.G.S.) without endorsement and Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study (C.A.G.S.) with endorsement*
